International collaboration

As is common for foreign chambers of commerce the Iceland Chamber of Commerce is a platform for connections, both foreign and domestic. Throughout the years the Chamber has had a robust calloboration with Chambers and other organisations around the world which aims at increasing access of Icelandic companies to foreign markets and good will towards them. The Chamber also operates specific bilateral Chambers, both directly and in collaboration with others. Today there are six bilateral Chambers operated by the Chamber.

The operations of the international sector of the Chamber are in line with foreign parties interest in Iceland at every moment. In general interest on the Icelandic economy has increased significantly parallel to increased business of Icelandic companies abroad and also because of the collapse of the financial system. This interest comes from every direction but mainly from foreign press, companies and stakeholders connected to Icelandic companies with international operations, international rating agencies and international investors. The international sector of the Chamber and the bilateral Chambers also enjoy good relations with embassies and consul offices foreign countries in Iceland and the Chamber intends to maintain and strenghten them even further. Relations with the foreign ministry, Icelandic embassies abroad and the Trade Council of Iceland have also been increasing over the years.

The Chambers foreign relations are also through the Icelandic Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris. ICC´s main function is to fight for a barrier free international business in every field. About 8.000 companies from around the world are members of the ICC.

A prominent factor of the Chambers international sector is to accommodate foreign guests and other relations with them. Many delegations meet with the Chamber every year with the purpose of receving information on the Icelandic business community. The Chamber has also supervised meetings between foreign delegations and reprasentatives of domestic companies.
