Statements on bills
Every year the Chamber gives statements on dozens of bills from the parliamentary committees concerning economic- and business activities. The Chamber is also frequently given an opportunity to give statements on drafts of bills or regulations drafted by ministries or public institutions. These bills or regulations nearly always concern the business community in a direct or indirect manner. Most requests for statements are sent from the commerce committee or the tax-and economic committee, but requests are also made by the fisheries committee, educational committee, industry committee and social committee.
Employees of the Chamber are also regulary called before the parliamentary committees to discuss the Chambers stand towards various matters.
The Chamber furthermore has the initiative of sending in its statements although no requests for them are made. In most cases it is done because of comments from the members and the bill or regulation in question has a substantial effect on their operating conditions. Through their membership, companies have the opportunity to influence directly legislation that concern their business interests by making use of the Chambers´ statements.
Statements on bills are only published in Icelandic.
